Film
A series of three videos, visually exploring problems with mass scale agriculture.
GONE FISHING // This video is a visual interpretation of how the fishing industry will eventually damage marine life to the point where where the fish simply won't be there, the larger boats are staying out at see for far too long, fishing in an unsustainable way, and dramatically effecting fish numbers by using huge nets. this is leaving less business for smaller, more sustainable fishing methods and boats.
WARM COWS // Mass farming and exploitation of cows is highly unsustainable for the environment and for the lives of the cows. The area that I’m looking at is the dairy industry; whereas they should be able to live for up to 20 years, they infact tend to become lame after just 5 years after complete exploitation of their bodies, and pure exhaustion from standing on concrete floors for hours every week which means going through a lot of bodies quickly, using steroids and mass feeding methods to speed processes up.
The whole process is very inhumane, where the female cows are impregnated often, and their claves taken away from them after birth.
The article from PETA supplied me with some of the facts and statistics for this piece:

CHICKEN SPACE // Something that I’m learning about the egg industry is that free- range isn’t necessarily frolicking around in a sunny field, in fact not actually allowed much more space to move than that of a caged hen, just in an environment not surrounded by a cage, which is usually badly ventilated and uncomfortable.
Another disadvantage to cage free- chickens is the manure and their want to dig for worms, eventually eating their own manure which could spread salmonella throughout all of the chickens and eggs. It is a stressful system for the chickens, resulting in cannibalism and broken bones where they struggle to define a pecking order.
The article in the guardian helped with a lot of the facts that I’m basing this work on the article:

as well as the egg industry center website looking at animal welfare.
